Fundy Coast to Fundy Shore Tour

Day 1 – Moncton

You will fly into Moncton, New Brunswick, the geographical hub of the Maritimes and you will be staying at the Delta Beausejour Hotel, conveniently located in the cosmopolitan downtown area. Whether you enjoy concerts, the casino or some great retail shopping, the attractions, dining, music and heritage that permeate the growing city of Moncton will enrich your heart.

For your dining pleasure, savour a delicious meal at the Windjammer Restaurant considered to be one of the finest in the area. The dark wood and nautical theme reminds one of an officers’ mess. You might try the squid-ink linguini or perhaps the chateaubriand of locally raised bison – an unexpected offering on the east coast. D

Day 2 – Saint John

Hopewell Rocks New BrunswickAfter a hearty breakfast at your hotel, your exploration of the wonders of New Brunswick begins with a visit to Shediac. You’ll get a taste of the Acadian Culture and see miles of spectacular sandy beaches before boarding a Shediac Bay Lobster Cruise. There’s more to catching lobster than meets the eye, and you’ll have a chance to indulge in an on-board feast before returning to shore.

Heading west along the coast, the Bay of Fundy boasts the highest tides in the world, rising and falling more than 15 metres (50 feet – or the height of a four-storey building), viewable twice a day as 100 billion tonnes of saltwater rush in to fill the bay. As you walk on the ocean floor during low tide you’ll see the world famous “flower pots”, intricately designed unique rock formations designed by tide and wind activity over the centuries, from the ocean floor. At high tide, you can paddle among the rocks in a kayak.

Photo of Reversing Falls in Saint John, New BrunswickThe drive to Canada’s first incorporated city, Saint John, provides relaxation as you travel through verdant farmland in the Kennebecasis Valley. Saint John is the largest urban area in the province and is home to the famous Reversing Falls. The Falls are a phenomenon resulting from the dramatic rise and fall of the tides in the Bay of Fundy that, at high tide,  effectively push the mighty 450 mile long St. John River backward upstream. When you arrive in the city, you’ll check into your comfortable room at Hilton Saint John, situated on the waterfront.

Then, take a short walk down any of our historic streets to enjoy our beautiful architecture.

Dine at one of Saint John finest restaurants, Italian by night.

Day 3 – St Andrews

Algonquin-HotelIn the morning you’ll travel south along the shore of the Bay of Fundy to St. Andrews-By-The-Sea.  This gracious and quaint seaside resort town is reminiscent of a bygone era – marvel at the historic architecture.  You’ll be staying at the famous Fairmont Algonquin Resort where you can relax and enjoy the ambiance and the historic architecture from a seat on the terrace while you enjoy your specially prepared elegant lunch.

There are many things to do and see in St. Andrews.  You may choose an afternoon of pampering at the Fairmont’s award winning spa or fine-tune your game as you play the links of their seaside championship golf course.

Your dinner will be served from a selection of the unique specials available at the nearby Rossmount Inn where Chef Chris Aerni emphasizes fresh, local, seasonal, organic ingredients – a philosophy that the Swiss-born chef and his wife Graziella, co-owners of the Rossmount Inn, take seriously. Their menu changes daily to reflect the best offerings of land and sea.

Day 4 – Whale watching

Jolly_breeze-Whale-WatchingThe “Jolly Breeze of St. Andrews”.  After you are welcomed aboard and receive the often humorous safety speech, we will travel across the Passamaquoddy Bay, viewing seals that may be sunning themselves on rocks if the tide is low,  and swimming nearby if the water is high, until we reach the playground of the whales, the rich feeding grounds of the Bay of Fundy that entice the whales to this region year after year. Once among the islands porpoise and sometimes white sided dolphins will often approach the boat to enjoy some “boat wake surfing.” Watch the soaring bald Eagles and many other pelagic sea birds feed as well.

Passengers aboard “The Jolly Breeze of St. Andrews” enjoy comfortable seating on the main deck. Once on our way, you may stroll about exploring this famous vessel. Below decks are two washrooms, luxurious heated lounge, a private baby/change room. The 3.5 hour tours are suitable for all ages.

Later visit Huntsman Marine to get an up-close and personal look at the marine life from the bay.  Enjoy the touch pool or feeding time for the seals.

Saint Andrews has lots to see and do including a drive across the ocean floor to Ministers Island to visit the Van Horne Estate.

Day 5 – Homeward bound

Breakfast at the Algonquin can be a leisurely affair or you can head out quickly to enjoy one last morning in St. Andrews. This is a perfect time to investigate the wonderful shops along Water Street, indulge in one last golf game or perhaps just relax on the terrace at the Algonquin before flying back to your home from one of our airport locations, refreshed from your visit to New Brunswick’s famous Fundy Coast.
